Course Instructor Mark Renson examines snow conditions alongside Vermont Rt. 108, demonstrating to students how probing with a ski pole and other simple tests can provide helpful data during a ski tour. Renson was one of five instructors teaching the annual National Ski Patrol Avalanche Level 1 class at Smuggler's Notch.
